Our Story
Established Summer 2020
Throughout his undergraduate career at UCLA, William Lan (current president) realized that there was a strong need for a safe space to discuss mental health topics. Due to the stigma behind mental health, students often stray away from discussing emotional burdens. Unfortunately, keeping these issues private often weigh heavily onto our well being. One way that we can support each other is through vulnerability. Brené Brown, a well-known author, defines vulnerability as "having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control of the outcome."
After reading Ms. Brown's book, "Daring Greatly," William was inspired to create an organization that encouraged students to be vulnerable. The ultimate goal is to debunk any myths or over-generalizations that invalidate the mental health experiences of students, create a supportive community of students who advocate for mental health, and encourage students to be open and share their true selves in a non judgmental space.
